WATA 1450 AM & WXIT 1200 AM

Folks are pretty lucky in Boone and Blowing Rock. They get to listen to Neal Boortz twice a day. Mr. Boortz claims to be a libertarian. Does his libertarian faith somehow explain the comments he made on his radio show on January 30th? Via mediamatters.org, here's what Boortz had to say about the victims of Hurricane Katrina:

"When these Katrina so-called refugees were scattered about the country, it was just a glorified episode of putting out the garbage." Boortz also described New Orleans as "a city of parasites, a city of people who could not and had no desire to fend for themselves."

...
"The primary blame goes on the worthless parasites who lived in New Orleans who you -- couldn't even wipe themselves, let alone get out of the way of the water when that levee broke."
...
"Cries of the downtrodden, my left butt cheek. That wasn't the cries of the downtrodden; that's the cries of the useless, the worthless."
...
You had a city of parasites and leeches, and that's George Bush's fault? So, boy, I need to slow down. I'm saying too many of the things I actually believe today."

Since most of us around here have jobs, it's a good thing that Boortz is aired on WATA 1450 AM and WXIT 1200 AM later in the evening. That way we can make a list of the local sponsors of his show. We'll send out the list once we've finished.

Full transcript and audio of Boortz's "libertarian" views here.

We listened to an hour and a half of Boortz's show, from 9 pm until 10:30 pm on WATA 1450 AM and heard not a single local commercial.

Does this mean the show has no local sponsors? Strange--radio stations always say that they must have local sponsors. What's the deal?

We'll keep listening.

The majority of content on WXIT and WATA has no local sponsors. They only run PSAs, which should be evident to anyone who actually listens to the stations.

btw ... Boortz is not currently heard on WXIT. The station goes off the air during Hannity. So, you know, check your facts or something.

if there is no local sponsor for boortz, then why do these radio stations insist that all progressive programming have a local sponsor?

Regardless of what time this guy is on the air, or which station--you cannot get around the fact that he is a flaming racist, and that our local family-values centered radio stations seem to have no problem with that. They even air Boortz without sponsors--they're giving it away. Unreal.

I say know what you're talking about. WXIT goes off the air at sundown, which for months has been prior to 6 p.m. Eventually he will be on the WXIT airwaves some, but only as long as the sun is up.

your point about airtimes and stations is not actually a point. if bootz will be on the air on wxit, does that not equate to 2 stations when the sun is up? either way, these radio stations can't find sponsors for the show. so why the double standard with regard to insisting that progressive shows must have a sponsor?

this is the point.
